RE: Jayco Seneca: review after 10K

Excellent Point!! - My dealer fell short here. I really got the impression it never saw a PDI. Dealer actually delivered unit to my home. Hi All I have had a similar experience with my 35GS. I would not trade this rig for anything as of yet. My dealer and Jayco have been very helpful in resolving issues. The delima I have is most of the issues have been so petty I fix them myself. I had most minor problems resolved before I could even get to the dealer. Not to mention the cost of fuel. There have been a few things where the unit had to go back to the RV dealer and the Chevy dealer to fix. Bottom line is this - There needs to be tighter quality control at the factory. There should be quality inspectors test EVERY mechanical function for operation. Not to mention check Fit and finish. I am sure that Jayco could pay these peoples wages just in warranty savings alone. I have been in the manufacturing world for over 20 years and it can be done. I bought a new Jayco a couple of years ago (greyhawk) and have had very few probems in the last 2 years and 20,000 miles. You have a good point on quality from manufacturing but don't forget the dealer network. The dealer PDI is an important part of the quality process that is often overlooked. I think the dealer makes a really big difference in the overall owner satisfaction of RV's.

RE: nervous pullling toad

Here is my 2c worth. I have a Jayco Seneca and a Chevrolet Tahoe as a toad. The Seneca barley knows the tahoe exists while towing. There a re a few things to keep in mind here. 1) How capable is the coach as far as tow ratings. 2) A proper tow bar is a must!! 3) A proper supplemental brake system for the toad. 4) Make sure you have proper brake lights for the toad. 5) DO NOT corners on any of the above and you should have a good towing experience. Having the toad is priceless for us with two small children.

RE: Questions for Seneca owners

Here is my two cents worth- I would love to have sattelite My 6k watt gen set got its first 50 hours form a round trip to disney and back from kentucky running a bottle warmer, microwave and the AC. works fine. I have the entertainment center and love it. There is a sliding bunk under it for my oldest son. The full body paint is the way to go I have never owned a convection oven so I have no opinion. I do not have thermal pane windows but I am sure they are a good value. I know if I was ordering a coach I am just the kind of guy who checks all of the above on the option sheet. Mine was on the lot. I have no regrets. We are looking at ordering a 2009 Seneca FS and were wondering what options are must haves or ones that are nice to have and ones that you could live without. Provincial Glazed Maple Wood Package Convection Microwave Euro Chair ILO Swivel Chair Euro Chair ILO Recliner Electric, Leather Sofa 8 cu. ft. Refrigerator with Ice Maker Cab Over Bunk w/26" LCD TV Winegard® Dome Satellite Dish Satellite Kit 19" LCD HDTV, Exterior Door Side 8000 Watt Diesel Generator Diamond Shield Paint Protection Film Thermal Pane Tinted Safety Glass Windows Brookstone Premium Paint Package Cordovan Interior Decor Nickel Interior Decor Chocolate Interior Decor We know we want the cab over bunk but other than that I'm not sure what else. I know that everyone has different opinions but just trying to get a feel as to what everyone likes. Thanks, Jan

RE: Seneca Fuel Tank Strap

Gents I looked at mine the other day and noticed on pass. side that the two strap bolts were not flush with the frame. I stuck my hand on the other side and it had pleanty of thread. I am wondering if this is a jam nut and it is not supposed to be flush. I am thinking that the straps have tension on them and thats about it(similar to a hose clamp). I may take a photo and check with my medium duty dealer. Has any one actually contacted a MD dealer for this situation. Hmmmmm. Both of my passenger side tank strap bolts are backed out some...but wouldn't budge when I tried to tighten them with a crescent wrench. Interesting... Beave

RE: Seneca Fuel Tank Strap

Bill - It started making an awful popping noise in the steering while going over any bump or turning the wheel to the left. The GM dealer inspected all steering components and finally discovered the shackles were loose. bones67, How did you determine the shackles were loose? Was there noise from the front-end or were you just doing a routine inspection? Bill

RE: Seneca Fuel Tank Strap

I better check mine - at 600 miles I had to take mine to a medium duty dealer and have the front leaf spring shackles tightened. I mean they were LOOSE! - Imagine the front axle coming loose at about 65mph Thanks for the info The other day I was checking underneath my 2007 Seneca just to make sure everything was okay with the drivetrain, suspension, etc. While checking the coach, I discovered that three of the bolts that keep the fuel tank straps attached to the frame were extremely loose. In fact, one of them was within a thread or two of completely backing out. Had the bolts fallen out, I could have lost the tank in the middle of the highway. Not good!! My MH has less than 5000 miles on it. I would guess that the bolts probably were not tight when it left the factory. I would recommend that other Kodiak based MH owners check these bolts. This is just another item I've added to my regular maintenance check list.

I need Toad Brake Help! Whose system do I buy

Well it looks like ALL manufactures have truly the best system according to them. I am trying to decide on a brake system for the toad. I am leaning to the Brake Buddy Vantage select. I have had a dealer tell me the way to go is the SMI Stay-in-play is the way to go? I know there have been some posts on remote problems with the Vantage select. What should I do. I have a Jayco Seneca 35GS

RE: Jayco Seneca Recall's

Bones, what is the build date of your 2008? Most of these things are now fixed on the later units at the factory. I also have a 2008 35GS that has a build date of 10/2007. Thanks, Tex Tex - Mine is right about the same as yours.

Jayco Seneca Recall's

I have noticed several people reporting their recall notices. My Seneca is a 2008 35GS and has only 900 miles on it. 480 of those miles due to delivery from factory. My three are for the Battery cables, Gas line in the slide out can have a hole rubbed in it. and the third is actually a TSB only for the exhaust hangers. I encourage everyone to get the exhaust hangers fixed! I am walking past the RV one day and the tail pipe tip is laying on the ground! It had two broken hangers and was suspended by the DPF hanger. I am glad I had no fire as another member did due to cables or have my exhaust hangers break on the highway. My point is to all I would not procrastinate on Jayco's recent recalls. Happy travels to all

RE: Another Jayco Recall - Greyhawk & Seneca LPG

(CLARIFICATION) I think someone just screwed up when they typed the recall notice I posted. I've checked several sites wherein the recall is referenced and most have it wrong. However the following site does not show the 32SS model but rather the 30GS model: http://www.usrecallnews.com/2008/05/nhtsa-1035.html From what I know about the problem it looks to me like the only models affected are the Greyhawk 33DS, the Greyhawk 30GS (not Kodiak chassis) and the new 2008 Seneca 35MS with the full wall slide. These are the only models I can find that have an LPG appliance in the slideout. The 33DS & 35MS have slideout refrigerators & the 30GS has a slideout LPG range. Bill The Seneca 35GS has the oven in the slide out.

RE: Never Again Blue Ox!!

If something as insignificant as this bothers you - then possibly you are in need of more help than what you will receive from the folks on this forum. Good Luck to you God Bless Bill Fellow RV r's - I feel this forum is a good educational tool for those who may not have as much time in a motor as others. I looked to this site to gain much knowledge before the purchase of my rig. Who knows somebody else may have had a similar experience and have a solution. Thats what we are here for right? I do not expect that the folks on this site will solve this issue. Sure I am not so happy about the appearance because I take as much pride in my cars as I do my RV. I think a company like Blue Ox that sells the now you see it now you don't type product should have at least a paragraph in the install instructions that disclaims the issue of a Tahoe. Especially when they admit they know about the problem. And again most of the frustration was from the sorry about your luck treatment I recieved when trying to get to the root of the problem with Blue Ox. As far as the "If something as insignificant as this bothers you" comment is concerned, poor customer service should bother us all. I am just trying to relay my experience to the next guy who may be looking for another view. Safe travels for all!

RE: Never Again Blue Ox!!

This is the photo on the Blue Ox Website for a 2006 Tahoe the tabs are in the place in this photo...pull the tabs and you will see virtually nothing...so I am confused :? The Tahoe shares a baseplate with the Avalanche not the Silverado. http://www.aemfg.com/images/Baseplates/BX1667.jpg If you application is different than this, can you post a photo? Actually this is a silverado 1/2 ton. Here is the front of a tahoe http://groundeffects.home.insightbb.com/images/cef14e1122.JPG

RE: Never Again Blue Ox!!

Hello All - I should have posted a few photos. I would also like to say In my original post Blue Ox did offer support if I drove the car to Nebraska. I live in Kentucky. You would think they would have figured this out. It's not like my toad is a Dodge Viper. Also I have the pins removed and compare to silverado in their photo. Also Avalanche is same part number as Tahoe for 2006. Oh and of course it's my wife's car!C:\Documents and Settings\pleming\My Documents\Images\RV Warranty\Blue Ox\Piooo861.jpgC:\Documents and Settings\pleming\My Documents\Images\RV Warranty\Blue Ox\P1000862.jpg OK Here we go.
